You may have heard of Pinterest – well if you haven’t, you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of years. Pinterest is the fastest-growing social website and has been for the last 18 months or so ans so far, they have had a PC-first website. However, in 2013 they began the year with 50% of traffic coming from mobile but they are now seeing fully 75% of their traffic coming from mobile devices. That has prompted them to completely revamp their mobile site. The goal is to bring their mobile site on a par with their PC-based site.
Pinterest also believes that a modern mobile site is key to their ongoing international expansion efforts, as the company understands that some users’ first visit will be via a mobile browser. Also noteworthy is the fact that they are developing a mobile site from the ground up, rather than simply making their PC-site “mobile-friendly” or “responsive.” The goal is to make the interaction mobile-first.
